The best decisions are never made in the midst of strong emotion (of any kind)

Sure TV and the movies have some great scenes where it feels satisfying to make a choice in emotional haste (I’m thinking of Clark Griswold’s boss in Christmas vacation.  Remember this scene? A little long, but worth it.)  IRL it's not that way at all.

Elated, angry, confused . .  . . what great decisions came from when you were not in a calm state of mind?

So when you are emotional and asked to decide, FIRST decide to take some time for you.  Take the time you need to work through your emotions and come to a peaceful state.  Only after you’ve stepped away for a bit can you properly re-evaluate the situation and rethink your decision.  This could be as simple as taking a bio-break in a meeting, reconvening to conclude at a different time or day, or stating that you would like some time to think it through.

Trust in this, you will feel better about the decision and outcome if you do.
